Erik Dubeau B.Mus.
Trumpet
Erik Dubeau is a trumpet player, performer, and dedicated educator who is passionate about sharing the joy of music-making with the next generation. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto and has completed 12 years of private trumpet study, along with four years of teaching experience.
Erik believes that music should be both meaningful and fun. His teaching focuses on helping students develop a beautiful, confident sound, which he considers the foundation of strong technique and healthy playing habits on a brass instrument. At the same time, he encourages students to explore music as an emotional outlet and a source of personal expression.
In his lessons, Erik takes a thoughtful and individualized approach. He carefully observes what motivates each student and adapts his teaching style accordingly—whether that means providing positive reinforcement or challenging students to push their limits. He also keeps detailed lesson notes to ensure each student’s progress is supported and that lessons remain engaging and effective.
Erik hopes his students leave lessons not only with improved musical skills, but also with a lasting love and appreciation for music—and for the trumpet in particular.
As a performer, Erik has been recognized nationally for his talent. He was selected as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, representing the country as a young musician, and his chamber ensemble won first prize at the North American Brass Band Association Championships Chamber Music Competition.
Erik is currently enrolled at The Glenn Gould School, where he is pursuing his Artist Diploma, while also working as an active freelance musician in Toronto. He brings this real-world performance experience into his teaching, helping students connect their lessons to the broader world of music.
