Bennett Young B.Mus.

Double Bass

Bennett is an experienced and versatile music educator with over 10 years of teaching across a wide range of instruments, styles, and settings. A graduate of York University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Jazz Performance, Bennett specializes in electric and double bass, guitar, ukulele, songwriting, and music theory.

At the heart of Bennett’s teaching philosophy is the idea that music is a language—a powerful tool for expression and connection. He focuses on improvisation across genres, helping students not only master technical skills, but also develop their own musical voice. Through writing, arranging, and performing, Bennett encourages students to explore music in a way that feels personal and creatively fulfilling.

Bennett builds lessons around each student’s unique interests, using their favorite music as a vehicle for growth. By grounding instruction in the core building blocks of music, he ensures students develop a strong, transferable foundation that prepares them to tackle new styles and repertoire with confidence.

Whether working with private students of all ages, leading group classes in songwriting, coaching rock bands, or teaching at some of the city’s top summer music programs, Bennett is known for his warm, encouraging approach and ability to spark genuine excitement. His students leave lessons not just with new skills, but with a deep belief that the music that inspires them is within reach—with just a little practice.

When he’s not teaching or performing, Bennett enjoys woodworking, playing tennis, and solving crosswords.
